A District 283 family & community initiative

Let's give learning back its attention.

We're parents, educators, and community members across St. Louis Park working to reclaim our schools and learning environments from Big Tech's interests — for students, teens, and the next generation.

Mission & vision

We're not anti-tech. We're pro-learning.

We are parents, teachers, and community members working toward evidence-based, pedagogically purposeful use of technology in schools. We're a growing group across District 283 concerned about the unchecked expansion of screen-based technology into daily life — and we're working to restore real-world connection, reclaim our collective attention, and build stronger communities for the next generation.

We believe childhood is worth protecting, and so is learning. When classrooms are shaped by Big Tech interests rather than what actually helps kids learn and grow, both suffer. We believe tech can be a powerful tool when it's used with intention and purpose — and that intention has to come from educators and families, not from the companies selling the devices.

St. Louis Park

Real, lasting change happens where these three meet.

HOME SCHOOL COMMUNITY

Three overlapping circles labeled Home, School, and Community, with the shared center highlighted to represent where collective action happens.

Where we stand

We advocate for:

  • Phone-free schools, bell to bell
  • Schools that prioritize children's well-being over Big Tech interests
  • More free-play and independence for kids
  • Collective action to delay smartphones and social media
  • Low-tech childhoods and teen years
Take action

Two minutes now. Responsible tech in our schools for good.

These are the highest-impact things you can do for District 283 students this week.

Wait Until 8th Pledge

Did you know the average age a child gets their first smartphone is just 10? You don't have to navigate that alone — join families across St. Louis Park and beyond in pledging to wait on smartphones until at least the end of 8th grade. Once 10 families from your child's grade and school sign on, the peer pressure disappears. Basic talk-and-text phones and smartwatches are still fine in the meantime.
